Early in the morning of November 1st, 1965 a fire broke out on the 6th floor of New Quincy. It was started by a cigarette. Four suites caught on fire. Fortunately all of the students either escaped or were rescued, some were treated for smoke inhalation. The incident spurred officials to reconsider the locking systems on the doors, as well as egress patterns in the building. Damages came to more than $135,000.
