Dr. Rushika Fernandopulle

Non-resident Tutor
Pre-Med

Hi all, I am happy to be return for my 20th or so year as a non resident Premed tutor at Quincy House. I lived in the house as an undergrad from 1986-1989 where I was a government concentrator (but did the premed requirements on the side), went to Harvard Med (my premed tutor at Q house was the current dean of HMS George Daley when he was still a grad student!). After graduation I thought I wanted to be a general surgeon but after my internship at Penn decided I made the wrong choice so worked for a consulting company called the Advisory Board for a year, then did Primary Care Internal medicine at MGH. While I loved primary care I realized the model was broken, so started a company to build a radical new model based on relationships and not transactions and changed everything including new business model, process, technology and culture. This started as a bootstrapped single practice in Arlington MA called Renaissance Health, but turned into a larger venture backed company called Iora Health which I started and led for over a decade. In 2021 we combined with One Medical, and then in 2023 sold the combined company to Amazon. Throughout this whole journey I continued to see patients part time- both in primary care and on the ward service at MGH.

While I wasn't building Iora, I enjoyed skiing, biking, good wine, travel (have been in over 60 counbtries and all 50 states), and spending time with my wife Maria and 3 daughters (one of whom is a recent Q house graduate who is in the middle of the Med school application process herself) and doggie (a cockapoo puppy named Frodo). I have advised dozens of Q house students and recent graduated over the past few decades, and so far all of them have gotten in to a school they have loved. I live in Porter Square and am happy to come meet in person at Q House, ot work together by phone/zoom. I'm happy to advise anyone interested in Medical School, but especially those who may be interested in a carrer which included international health, primary care, healthcare technology, policy, business or innovation.
