Dr. John Nagurney

Non-Resident Tutor
Pre-Med

I am a graduate of Quincy House/Harvard College (BA), Cornell University Medical College (MD),the Harvard School of Public Health (MPH), and an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School. I practiced Emergency Medicine for many years, first at Cambridge Hospital (Chief of Emergency Medicine), then at Massachusetts General Hospital (Senior Attending Physician and Director of Clinical Research). At MGH, my clinical responsibilities included providing primary emergency care and both bedside and didactic teaching. I have mentored and trained generations of fellows, residents, interns and medical students over the years. My research and academic interest was acute cardiac emergencies and the diagnosis of cardiac ischemia. My secondary academic interest was in clinical research methodology. I retired from clinical practice in late 2022 but continue to teach medical students at Harvard Medical School.

I have been a member of the Quincy House Pre-Medical Advisory Committee for several decades and have advised approximately one hundred Quincy House graduates over that period. It has gone well. I have done this because of the satisfaction in “giving back” to those at Harvard who helped me early in my career.

On a more personal note, my interests include travelling (including a year spent doing field research in the interior of Papua New Guinea) reading, and athletics. I remain an avid tennis player, downhill skier, and windsurfer. My wife (who is a Professor of Health Law, Ethics and Human Rights Emerita at Boston University) and I live alongside the Harvard College Campus.

I look forward to an ongoing relationship with Quincy House and its vibrant community. Go Penguins!
