"James Alrassi, MD, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He completed his undergraduate studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, earning a bachelor's degree in history with departmental honors and magna cum laude distinction. He went on to receive his medical degree from Stony Brook University School of Medicine, where he pursued a scholarly concentration in medical humanities and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Alrassi then went on to complete his residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, New York.

Throughout his academic and clinical training, Dr. Alrassi has maintained a strong focus on the history of medicine and medical education. His work spans topics including laryngology, airway simulation, and the history of medicine, with multiple peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as The Laryngoscope and Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. He is the recipient of numerous accolades including the Collier History of Medicine Fellowship, the American Broncho-Esophagological Association’s 1st Place Research Prize and multiple travel grants from national otolaryngology societies. Dr. Alrassi has presented his research nationally, including at the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery’s Historical Forum.

Dr. Alrassi’s clinical and academic interests include the history of otolaryngology, medical simulation and innovations in medical education. He is particularly passionate about exploring how historical insights can inform contemporary surgical practice and patient care. As he advances in his career, he hopes to contribute meaningfully to both surgical innovation and the pedagogical development of future clinicians."
